Tim Burson

State House Representative District 87 · District 87

Bio & Background

Tim spent over 30 years as a probate trial attorney right here in DeKalb County, holding people accountable when they mishandled money and property that wasn't theirs. That work taught him something he carries to this day: when someone trusts you with what belongs to them, you owe them absolute fidelity. Living in metro Atlanta since college, Tim raised three children while coaching youth football, basketball, and baseball, and teaching Sunday School. He's served his faith community for decades, working with young people through Royal Ambassadors at the church, Association, and state levels, even writing curriculum for the North American Mission Board. After owning a home in Cobb County for over 30 years, Tim put down roots in DeKalb in 2023 — the same county where he'd built his legal career. Now retired, he's running because he believes public servants should guard the public's trust the same way he spent his career demanding others do.

Why I'm Running

I watched my neighbors struggle through 2025 — working harder than ever just to fall further behind. Property taxes kept climbing while our schools kept slipping. Kids in our district aren't hitting grade level in math and reading. Streets that used to feel safe don't anymore. And when we asked questions, it felt like nobody at the county was listening. That's when I knew I couldn't just complain from the sidelines anymore. I'm running because I believe DeKalb families deserve to see exactly where their tax dollars go — and they deserve results. Students who can compete. Neighborhoods where you know your kids are safe. Criminals who actually face consequences. A government that remembers it works for us, not the other way around. I'm not here to build a political career. I'm here because this is my home, these are my neighbors, and we deserve better than what we're getting.
